Marauders Explorer Scout Unit - Mersea Island
Are part of Colchester Estuary District Explorer Scouts but also have a partnership with Mersea Island Scout
Group. New Explorers are welcome from Mersea and surrounding villages. We are a mixed group attending various different schools in Colchester and Tiptree so you might just find there's someone here you already know!
Our birthday is the 10th March 2010 so we'll be celebrating our 8th anniversary in 2018!
We can do all kinds of activities: games, team building, crafts, climbing, shooting, water activities, camping (of course!), learning new skills, community work, challenges etc etc. Most importantly we are about making friends and having fun! The year’ programme is based on the ‘balanced programme’ set out by the Scout Association but is negotiated and planned by the whole of the Unit. We like to get involved and attend events and
activities with others in the Scouting and the Guiding World.
Currently some of the Explorers are embarking on the challenge of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and Young Leaders schemes. More information about Explorers, opportunities, badges and awards etc at http://www2.scouts.org.uk/explorers/
Because 14-18 yr olds are often also busy with study we try to offer some flexibility and support ..... though we also believe that an hour and a half a week can be a positive break from revision!!
If you are a current Scout you can, with the agreement of leaders and your parent, start attending both Scouts and Explorers from the age of 13 ½ but won't normally be invested as an Explorer until they are 14 - this also gets you your "Moving on Award".
But you don't have to have been in Scouting before to join us - any time between your 14th and 18th birthday you can come and join us!!
If you are 18 or over you might be interested in joining the next section - Network for 18-26 yr olds http://www.essexscouts.org.uk/sections/network or maybe coming to help on our Leadership team!
We meet once a week all year round. Although we have a regular night, this is dependent on what other activities we are involved in. For instance we may agree in our programme to meet on different nights or at the weekend instead sometimes.

Bear Grylls says:
‘Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. This is what I love about Scouting. It’s about doing great things, loving and enjoying the great adventures and helping others to do the same.’
